(c) is correct.
  • 1-then-2-then-3 is the “5-4-3” – five spades, four diamonds and three hearts. You are bidding on over partner’s weak bid with no assurance of a fit (partner’s 2was a preference bid not support) so should have a good hand – at least 16 points. Hand B is therefore wrong – not strong enough and you should pass 2
  • Hand A is wrong because of the shape. Holding a 5422 shape, you should bid 2NT at your third turn, not 3
  • That leaves Hand C as the correct answer: indeed you have the perfect textbook hand for the sequence. If responder, with a blueprint of your hand, bids 3NT, you should pass. He should have eg 64, A86, Q84, Q10976.
